The town is built on two twin mountains called 'Alaró and Son Cadena', and at the top of the first lies the ruins of the famous Castle of Alaró. This castle was so impregnable that the Arab commander persisted two years after the Christian conquest of the island in 1285, being the last stronghold captured during the reconquest of Mallorca under the reign of Alfonso III of Aragon.
Today, Alaró stands out for its peaceful atmosphere, cobblestone streets, and the imposing Castell d'Alaró. The hike to the castle is one of the most famous hiking routes, offering panoramic views from the terrace at 871 meters above sea level that stretch across the entire island.
